Foundation
At Kantilal Chhotalal, we have a strong commitment to giving back to the community and creating better opportunities for the generations to come. Keeping this in mind, the firm has implemented several programs and initiatives mainly in the field of education. These initiatives have helped develop outstanding educational institutes that have made a significant impact on the society and region as a whole.
Vidyamandir
One of the most significant social service activities relates to the Vidyamandir Trust in Palanpur. Founded by our patron, Kantilal Chhotalal in 1948, the Trust today caters to over 6000 students with a special focus on providing a holistic, rounded education.
Over the years the Trust has grown to cater to virtually every educational need of the local populace. The Trust runs English and Gujarati medium schools from the kindergarten level to the Higher Secondary, and from the 1970s runs its own Gujarati and English Medium Teachers’ Training Colleges for the pre-primary, primary and secondary school levels. In the same period, hostels were also set up for students studying at the different institutes on the campus.
A special feature of the campus is Mamtamandir – an institute for the physically challenged encompassing all four types of differently-abled students viz visually impaired, orthopaedically handicapped, hearing impaired and mentally challenged. Established in 1963, it provides vocational training to help the students become self-reliant and become a part of the social mainstream. This institute is the only one of its kind in Gujarat and education is provided absolutely free of cost.
Vidyamandir Trust has been at the forefront of change – introducing new technologies and teaching techniques. Today, our partner Ashish Mehta remains actively involved in the organization as the Managing Trustee of the Trust, giving both strategic and operational guidance.
The Foundation also remains actively involved in a variety of daily community upliftment activities. These include an active involvement in the Gem and Jewellery National Relief Foundation for disaster management, and support for creation of check dams and tree plantations to leading not-for-profit organisations.
